The Sig Sauer MCX Virtus is a “Modern Sports rifle”. It has everything from a tactical rifle but Sig has chosen this corporate name.
For those who want it, after the pistol seminar, you will have the opportunity to shoot with a MCX Model SBR with a short barrel of 11.5 inches chambered in 5.56 NATO.
We recognize the MCX at first glance to their huge floating hand guard.
The muzzle brake, telescoping stock, the double action trigger group, everything is included straight out of factory (at 3300 euros per unit in Europe, it’d better be!)
Apart from the quality of the frame, and the overall finish far superior to a basic AR-15 Mill-spec, what distinguishes it from others ARlike rifles is its piston-driven gas system.
This system has advantages over the Direct Impingement system (used by AR-15 among others):
– it can “swallow everything”.
– reliability of the auto-loading.
– there’s less dirt in the breech because you’re not introducing propellant gases into the operating system.
– stay cooler.
Cons:
– some shooters complain of an excess of weight because of the solid piston rod instead of a hollow tube, thus, the front of the guns are heavier.
– more moving parts that can malfunction.
– parts are non-standard, therefore more expensive and harder to find.
Fun fact, John Wick, uses the MPX vaiant (chambered in 9mm) in chapter 3 of his adventures. Its futuristic look must have catched the eye of the director of photography. It is also seen in the popular Keanu Reeves sport short distance youtube video, with an MCX Virtus prepared by Taran.
Take the blue pill and you will crush a whole gang all by yourself without any kind of scanning or tactics. Take the red pill and well….it will be more complicated.
Another anecdote, but a dramatic one unfortunately, the MCX was used in the killing of June 12, 2016 in Orlando’s club. With 50 Dead including the killer, an Islamic terrorist who claimed From ISIS, this was the deadliest terrorist attack in the U.S. since the September 11 attacks in 2001. Is it the reason why Sig Sauer markets it as a “Modern Sports rifle”? Anyway, this appelation should not impair your judgment in any way.
In your opinion, does the MCX justify its price? To find out, you can visit us, try it, and make your own opinion.
